Writy doesn’t collect your writing.

Writy is a writing app, and what you write is yours. The app keeps your sheets in plain files on your Mac and sends us none of them. It has no account, no ads, and no analytics. The only thing it ever sends us is a message you write in Send Feedback, when you send it.

This page says exactly what that means, for the app and for writy.com. Writy is made by Skalfa LLC, 3 Monroe Parkway, Suite 850, Lake Oswego, OR 97035, USA, which is responsible for the information described here.

In the app

Your sheets are Markdown files in the folder you choose. If that folder is in iCloud Drive, Apple syncs it under Apple’s own terms; we never see it.

On a Mac with Apple Intelligence, unless you connect your own model (below), Writy uses Apple’s model only when you ask: typing ?? in Alternatives sends it the passage and the text around it, and Proofread sends it the selection or the whole sheet, a paragraph at a time. It runs on your Mac or in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, under Apple’s own terms; we never see that text, and Writy never trains anything on your writing.

If you connect your own Claude or ChatGPT in Settings ▸ Assistant, Writy sends what you ask about to that company instead, and again only when you ask: the passage and some text around it for ??, or the selection or the sheet, a few paragraphs at a time, for Proofread and Find Off-Tone Words. It goes straight from your Mac to Anthropic or OpenAI over an encrypted connection, under their API terms, which say what they keep and for how long, and it’s billed to your account with them. It never passes through a server of ours, and we never see it. Your API key stays in your Mac’s keychain, and Writy’s count of what it has spent stays on your Mac.

Everything else Writy keeps stays on your Mac, too: your settings, the history Versions keeps of every sheet, and the last crash report macOS gave Writy, kept so that you can choose to send it with a problem.

Send Feedback

When you choose Help ▸ Send Feedback… and click Send, Writy sends us what’s in the form: the kind of message, your name and email address, your message, and the Writy and macOS versions you’re using. If you’re reporting a problem, you can also include the last crash report. Crash reports hold no text from your sheets and no file names, and Writy never sends either.

The message goes over an encrypted connection to writy.com, which files it as an issue in a private GitHub repository that only we can read. Our server logs only when a message arrived and whether it was filed, not what it said or where it came from.

We use it to answer you and to make Writy better. We answer from the address you wrote to. Anthropic’s Claude helps us sort messages and draft answers, but a person reads and approves every reply before it’s sent.

Email

If you write to hello@writy.com or feedback@writy.com, we get your email address and your message, and we use them to answer you.

Buying Writy

When you subscribe or buy through the App Store, Apple handles the payment. We never see your card or your Apple Account; Apple tells us only whether this Mac’s copy of Writy is paid for, and gives us sales totals that don’t say who you are.

On writy.com

writy.com sets no cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or follow you from site to site: it tells us which pages were read, where readers came from, and roughly which country and browser, without identifying anyone. Cloudflare also keeps the site’s standard server logs on our behalf, which aren’t used to identify anyone.

How long we keep it

We keep feedback and email for as long as they help us answer you and improve Writy. Ask, and we’ll delete yours.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it or delete it. Write to hello@writy.com. If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

We never sell what we know about you, and we never share it except with the services named on this page, which help us run Writy.

Children

Writy isn’t made for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this page changes, we’ll update the date on it. If a change matters to what you share with us, we’ll say so on the blog, too.
